On major projects, the Project Engineer performs tasks assigned by the Project Manager.  He/she has task responsibility (accuracy, timeliness, follow-up) for each of these assignments.  On small projects all of the functions and responsibilities of the Project Manager may be delegated to the Project Engineer, except contract changes authority which will be subject to prior approval of the Project Manager.  Tasks can be delegated to Office Engineer on larger projects.

The starting wage rate for this position depends upon the division and job classification for which you are hired, and can fluctuate between divisions for the same job classification.


(Education, references, personal qualities)


1.  Minimum of 3 years construction experience or demonstrated proficiency with the company as an office engineer. 

2.  BS  Degree in Civil Engineering/Construction Management or equivalent experience. 

3.  Job Costing Experience. 

4.  Ability to assist Project Manager in all aspects of managing 1 large or several small projects at any one time.

5.  Ability to supervise 2 individuals.

6.  Basic knowledge of contract law. 

7.  Computer experience (Windows, Excel, Word and Project Management Software, to include scheduling software, i.e. Primavera, etc.).

8.  Basic skills in negotiating change orders and subcontracts. 

9.  Exhibit the following personal qualities:

Personnel you will supervise:

1.    Project Assistant

2.    Office Engineer



  1.   Follow Company and Project Management procedures.

  2.   Quantity take-offs for purchasing and payment requisitions.  (Coordinate with Field Supervisor)

  3.   Gather and enter quantitiesfor cost reports.

  4.   Assist the Project Manager in ensuring that all materials and subcontractors are committed, approved, and available by the time they are required.

  5.   Prepare working drawings.

  6.   Assemble, prepare, coordinate, submit, follow-up, record submittal information.

  7.   Maintain approved shop drawings up-to-date for field use.

  8.  Prepare and update production reports and schedules.

  9.  Maintain as-built drawings (if required).

10.  Maintain contract drawings and specifications up-to-date for office and field use.

11.  Maintain Purchase Order log, N&R log and Change Order logs.

12.  Prepare original budget from estimate and maintain budget revisions.

13.  Assure that pre-construction and progress photographs are taken and maintain prints and negatives.

14.  Develop and maintain subcontractor and supplier contact list.

15.  Draft work item list and item descriptions.

16.  Copy, file and distribute to accounting all receiving tickets and invoices.

17.  Obtain required permits and update Miss U permits.

18.  Collects and organizes information concerning field problems, questions, coordination.

19.  Monitor productions, material and subcontractor costs then analyze and projectin order to assist the Project Manager in analyzing and presenting the monthly Cost Report Review.

20.  Work with General Foreman/Superintendent to produce reliable cost to complete projections for cost report reviews.

21.  Build and maintain CPM schedules with 2 week look aheads.

22.  Track Monthly billings and receivables.

23.  Manage project cash flow through accurate and timely billings and receivable collections and communicate to the Project Manager and the Accounting Department.  Also follow through with the owner to ensure timely payments.

24.  Document and prepare change orders to contracts.  Negotiate based on knowledge of issue and if authorized by Project Manager.

25.  Review and approve invoices and receiving tickets for payment on a weekly basis.   Submit and issue debit memos where applicable.

26.  Actively participate and support the quality program.

27.  Assemble and maintainjob bluebooks, production reports, etc.

28.  Prepare Job Progress Notes monthlyand weekly.

29.  Prepare Partial Summaries Monthly.

30.  Ensure that job delays are accurately tracked and well documented in the event of changing conditions (claims) and/or pending change orders.

31.  Providecost projections and gather material and subcontractor cost information for Initial Variance reports with guidance of Project Manager.

32.  Manage weekly meetings such as Job Progress and Owner/Customer Progress meetings with assistance and guidance from the project manager.

33.   Prepare project letters and correspondence.

34.  Possess a strong knowledge of field operations and construction processes as related to our specific jobs.

35.  The above list is not all-inclusive nor will each task be required on every project.

36.  Immediately report major problems with possible solutions for resolution.

37.  Market the company and uphold its outstanding reputation.

38.  Initiate job start up with accounting.

39.  Forward list of subcontractor JSR to Safety Director.

40.  Forward subcontractors list of hazardous chemical and corresponding MSDS to Safety Superintendent.

41.  Weekly jobsite visits (minimum requirement).

42.  Review field timesheets and daily diary.

43.  Verify receiving tickets.

44.  Work towards and promote the Operations Yearly Objective and Goals.
